John Leslie Jambor is the president of Leslie Research and Consulting. He had a long career as a research scientist, in the early years principally as a member of the economic geology group in the Geological Survey of Canada, and subsequently with the mineral sciences and environmental laboratories of CANMET in Ottawa. He resigned in 1993 and moved to the Vancouver area of British Columbia, where he does consulting, and has continued his research on environmental mineralogy and the predictive techniques related to mine wastes and acid drainage.
Although born in the famous mining town of Noranda, John moved at an early age to Vancouver, where he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in geology from the University of British Columbia. His Ph.D. was obtained at Carleton University during the period of employment with the Geological Survey of Canada.
He has published widely, has served in various capacities in several scientific bodies, and has been involved in CIM activities for more than 20 years. He is a CIM Fellow, a former President of the Geological Society, and has participated in several editorial roles for CIM publications. He was a co-recipient of the Barlow Memorial Medal in 1966 and 1974, and received the Julian Boldy Memorial Award in 1993. John has been an Honorary Life Member of the Mineralogical Association of Canada since 1982, and he continues to contribute in voluntary roles to various scientific organizations.
