VANCOUVER 2006 HIGHLIGHTS

The 2006 CIM Conference and Exhibition held in Vancouver brought the mining industry together to participate in innovative discussion forums, to learn about the most recent successes and discoveries of the industry, to discover the latest innovations, to participate in the industry-wide initiative to develop awareness of its contribution to society, and to have fun and to network. No one left disappointed.

Take a virtual visit of the conference, the exhibition and the Mining in Society show.

 Conference

The organizing committee put together a stellar program focusing on variety and relevance to create value with values. Read what some delegates said about the technical program:

"The technical program was interesting and well organized. Speakers and sessions were well facilitated. There was something there for everyone."

"Good balance of technical and social issues."

"I enjoyed the forum which included Stephen Lewis as speaker -by having him as a speaker it encourages transparency in our industry."

 Tradeshow

The 2006 Exhibition brought exhibitors, delegates, and visitors together to share the latest news of the industry in a relaxed atmosphere. Satisfied exhibitors were eager to reserve their space for Montreal 2007. Click here to see the list of exhibitors.

 Social Activities

All work and no fun certainly does not apply to the CIM conference. Whether you wanted to break loose after a long day at the show and attending the technical presentations or just get reacquainted with colleagues and make new contacts, CIM offered plenty of opportunities. To name a few: the Komatsu opening reception, the P&H reception and dance, the daily cocktail on the show floor, the student mentorship luncheon, the Caterpillar awards gala.

 Awards Gala

La crème de la crème. This high-class event organized in conjunction with Caterpillar gets excellent reviews year after year. Put together a gourmet dinner, an entertaining gala, and the distribution of prestigious awards among the major contributors to the industry and you have the recipe for an annual sold out event.

 Mining in Society

What do good ol' gold panning, the Amazing Mine Challenge, and the Mining and Energy Career Fair have in common? These were just a few examples of the activities put together to help visitors develop new knowledge and appreciation of the mining industry. Visitors, children, and adults alike took a walk through the show and learned about the distinct phases of the mining life cycle. Universities engaged visitors to discover the exciting study and career opportunities the industry offers, while a number of companies met with potential employees to discuss job possibilities at their sites.

The press talked about it, the visitors talked about it, the sponsors talked about it, the exhibitors talked about it, and we listened. Mining in Society will be back in 2007 and will showcase more contributions the mining industry makes in our day-to-day life and its exciting career opportunities.

 Guest program

Joining the CIM guest programs always brings great opportunities to discover a new side of a Canadian city. And Vancouver and its area offers variety, diversity, and exclusivity as the guests found out. Vancouver wore its sunniest and warmest attire for the whole week.
