The 2007 CIM Conference and Exhibition held in Montreal brought the mining industry together to participate in innovative discussion forums, to learn about the most recent successes and discoveries of the industry, to discover the latest innovations, to participate in the industry-wide initiative to develop awareness of its contribution to society, and to have fun and to network. All work and no fun certainly does not apply to the CIM conference. Whether you wanted to break loose after a long day at the show and attending the technical presentations or just get reacquainted with colleagues and make new contacts, CIM offered plenty of opportunities. To name a few: the Komatsu opening reception, the P&H reception and dance, the daily cocktail on the show floor, the student mentorship luncheon, the Caterpillar awards gala.

The Amazing Mine Challenge, gem polishing and the Career Fair were just a few examples of the activities put together to help visitors develop new knowledge and appreciation of the mining industry. Visitors, children, and adults alike took a walk through the show and learned about the distinct phases of the mining life cycle. Universities engaged visitors to discover the exciting study and career opportunities the industry offers, while a number of companies met with potential employees to discuss job possibilities at their sites.
The press talked about it, the visitors talked about it, the sponsors talked about it, the exhibitors talked about it, and we listened. Mining in Society will be back in 2008 and will showcase more contributions the mining industry makes in our day-to-day life and its exciting career opportunities.
Thanks to the MIS organizing committee for a show well done!
