Terence Bowles

Terence BowlesTerence Bowles was born and raised in Quebec, Canada and pursued his undergraduate studies in Applied Science at Laval University, graduating in Chemical Engineering in 1971.

Terence Bowles later attended McGill University in Montreal, where he completed his Masters in Business Administration, the Kellogg Graduate School of Management in Chicago where he completed the Advanced Executive Program, and the London Business School where he completed the Strategic Leadership Program.

Bowles then completed the Institute of Corporate Directors Program and received the ICD.D designation.

Terence Bowles received the Governor General's Medal

During this period of studies Terence Bowles received the Governor General's Medal for Highest Academic Standing, the McGill Associate Graduate Fellowship in Management and the McConnell Memorial Fellowship.

Terence Bowles began his career in 1971 at Quebec Iron and Titanium (QIT) where he served for a total of 27 years. In 1975, at the completion of his MBA, Bowles joined Dominion Bridge Company in Lachine, Quebec where he was responsible for marketing of industrial products, specifically with regard to the James Bay HydroElectric Development Project.

Terence Bowles joins IOC

In 1976, Terence Bowles returned to QIT and the challenging realities of the Mining and Iron and Steel business, as superintendent in the Smelter followed by a list of progressively more senior assignments such as Production Director, vice-president operations, senior vice-president planning, technology and finance, executive vice-president and president before joining IOC in 2001, as president and CEO.

Under his leadership, IOC experienced an impressive business turn around. During this period the company dramatically improved safety performance, recapitalized aging infrastructure and updated technology and work methods to improve productivity and output.

Having re-established these business foundations and improved business performance, Terence Bowles launched exciting plans to expand IOC production by 50% with a $1 billion capital investment.

Terence Bowles is Director of Mount Royal Club

Terence Bowles has since retired from his position at IOC and was appointed president and CEO of the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation.

Bowles has been a director of IOC and also a Director of QNS&L and Gulf Power Corporation, which are two subsidiaries of IOC.

During his years at QIT he also held Directorships in Quebec Iron and Titanium, Richards Bay Minerals (South Africa), Quebec Metal Powder Inc and Rio Tinto Canada. Terence Bowles is currently a Director of the Mount Royal Club of Montreal.

Terence Bowles is director of Semafo

Terence Bowles is currently a director of Semafo, a gold mining company with mines in Western Africa, and of Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, of the St Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation.

Terence Bowles currently resides in Montreal with his wife Lise where they raised their three sons.
