From the Editor

Angela Hamlyn, Editor-in-chief, CIM Magazine

The Canadian mining industry plays an integral role in this country’s economy, contributing more than $32 billion to our GDP in 2009. It directly employs more than 306,000 workers and receives input from more than 3,200 companies.

In addition to this domestic stronghold, mining is also one of this country’s most global sectors, rapidly becoming an international powerhouse in the minerals, metals, materials and petroleum industries. And the demand for our resources, products and expertise is only expected to grow as foreign appetite escalates, driven by burgeoning infrastructure and manufacturing requirements in large and developing economies. Canadian operators and suppliers are answering this demand with innovative products and processes that are integral to sustaining this growth.

In our ongoing commitment to highquality, relevant and groundbreaking editorial, CIM Magazine is also extending our reach by bringing our readers more global perspectives, accessing the industry experts and newsmakers that are propelling the Canadian mining industry to new heights. Our expanded editorial team also enables us to respond to the areas that our readers indicated were most relevant in our recent readers’ survey.

The coming year will surely be an exciting one, and CIM Magazine will endeavor to maintain its reputation as an industry-leading publication. We invite you to check out our dynamic 2011 editorial lineup as we forge into these new and newsworthy times.
