CIM Partners with EduMine to Provide High Quality Professional Development for Members

Montreal, Quebec, April 28, 2016: The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) is very proud to announce that it is partnering with EduMine – a leading provider of online training and education to the mining industry – in the roll-out of a premiere online professional development program to be offered to its members through a dedicated CIM “campus.”

“During our strategic outreach there was a very clear ask from the CIM membership for high-quality professional development courses, especially those that enable online participation,” said Jean Vavrek, CIM Executive Director, who noted that members are very transient and often located in remote areas.

These premium courses will be jointly peer-reviewed by CIM and the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) – who are also participating in this collaborative endeavour – and will qualify for institutional certification. SME will be offering a separate campus to its members.

“SME looks forward to partnering with CIM and EduMine to provide members with high quality on-line learning.  This unique partnership will allow the latest and most important mining concepts to be taught in the broadest form for all those wishing to advance their knowledge,” said SME’s Executive Director Dave Kanagy.

CIM was one of the first organizations to provide course material to EduMine, which has been providing online professional development and training to the global mining community since 1999.

“EduMine is excited to be collaborating with CIM and SME to provide their members and the global mining community with peer-reviewed professional development courses,” commented Simon Houlding, EduMine Vice-President of Professional Development. “We believe that this collaboration is a milestone for the industry in terms of raising the quality of education, training, and professional development in mining.”

Following the peer-review process, both CIM and SME are hoping to launch their respective campuses in the summer or fall of 2016.
