About MES

The Management and Economics Society, MES, is the former Mineral Economics Society of CIM, with a mandate that expanded to encompass members involved in all aspects of the management of companies active in the mining sector, in addition to its traditional membership of those with particular interests in the economics of the mining business (bankers, investment analysts, mineral economists, chief executives and others). It is the objective of the `new` MES to provide a focus and a home within the CIM organization for those who do not practice as geologists, engineers, metallurgists or environmental professionals. We look forward to having new members in the areas of insurance, law, human resources and sustainable development.

MES sponsors events that provide a forun for industry professionals to share experiences, insights and ideas on topics relating to the economic, management and financial aspects of the business. In addition to technical sessions at the Annual General Meeting, MES holds regular Symposia. These have provided information on topical issues within the field of mine finance and mineral economics and, going forward, will address the managment issues facing the industry.

MES uses its donations and profits generated from its Symposia to support supplemental educational programs in Canadian university. on topics related to mineral economics. MES has been able to support adjunct professor programs at the University of Toronto, Queen's University and the University of British Columbia.
