Xstrata Nickel – Nickel Rim South Mine
Nickel Rim South is Sudbury’s newest operation. The Nickel Rim South project was started in 2003 and was handed over to operations at the end of March 2010. Trip includes an underground tour focused on infrastructure and a short surface tour.

Stainless Steel Technologies

Stainless Steel Technology employs the latest Cad 2D & 3D solid modeling, parametric modeling & Cad/Cam software to enhance engineering and manufacturing capabilities. The site is also has a unique drop-test tower that is able to perform non-destructive braking trials on personnel conveyance devices. Complete tour of the facility and equipment, as well as a drop test if possible. If one is not possible, they will show their testing facility and a video of a taped drop test.
MOL – Material Testing Lab

Located at the Willet Green Miller Centre, the Material Testing Lab houses a specially designed testing facility for steel cables that has serviced the mining industry for close to 20 years. Trip includes a tour of the facility including the rope testing area. The participants will witness a rope test during the tour.
Rail-Veyor Technologies
Rail-Veyor is a cross between a railroad and a conveyor system. It is able to load and dump on the fly, negotiate a 20 per cent grade and turn corners without difficulty. Propelled forward by electrically-powered drive stations distributed along the line, it’s also energy-efficient and produces virtually no emissions. Trip includes a site visit to the Rail-Veyor that is currently setup at a Sudbury Basin operation.

MIRARCO VR Lab
The Virtual Reality Laboratory allows for immersive 3D presentations before a 3.9 million pixel, 22 foot concave screen. MIRARCO provides VRLs to clients for investor relations purposes, mine planning and design, exploration reviews and training sessions. Trip includes a VR lab demonstration as well as a presentation on seismic analysis and risk assessment.
