WORKSHOPS/SEMINARS |
Two workshops will be held just prior to the start of Mining Rocks!
PRACTICAL APPROACHES TO EXPLORATION GEOCHEMISTRY FOR MINERAL DEPOSITS This one and a half day short course will be held on Saturday April 23 and Sunday April 24 and will deal with practical applications for exploration geochemistry. A number of the world’s leading experts will present the current status and some of the pitfalls one may encounter in trying to conduct geochemical surveys. Some topics to be covered include sampling and analysis. Improperly collected samples and how they are analyzed could mean success or failure in your survey. Geochemical surveys using hydrogeochemistry, biogeochemistry, lake bottom sediments, stream sediments, heavy mineral concentrates, soil/humus, lithogeochemistry, selective extractions and soil gas surveys will be discussed. All geologists collecting any of these media as part of their exploration program should attend.
Date: Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24
Time: Saturday, 8:30 to 17:00; Sunday, 8:00 to 12:00
Price: $350.00

KNOWING THE RISKS DON’T LEARN THEM THE HARD WAY
The Management and Economics Society of CIM will be offering a workshop on Sunday entitled “Knowing the Risks Don’t Learn Them the Hard Way”. It will examine the practical aspects of risk in the mineral industry including an overview of risk, a discussion of risk assessment techniques in estimating and evaluation, and an examination of why projects fail. Management risks will be addressed including corporate governance issues, the exposure to risk of executives and board members, and current industry risk-management practices.
A facilitated working lunch, on the theme “I won’t do that again!”, will develop a list of ‘red flags’ of lessons learned the hard way through the participation of workshop attendees.
The workshop is recommended for individuals who manage projects or project funds at all levels, including engineers, accountants, and lawyers.
Date: Sunday, April 24
Time: 9:30 to 16:00
Price: $200.00 ($350.00 for non-delegates)
