Sommaire: Use of zinc shot feed is a well-established procedure among North American electrogalvanizers. This form of zinc is easy to handle and relatively inexpensive when compared with zinc oxide. This paper reports results on the kinetics of zinc shot dissolution in traditional pure zinc solutions and in electrolytes used for the plating of nickel/zinc alloys. Despite the cementation of minor amounts of nickel in the latter solution, acceptable dissolution rates of the zinc shot can be achieved...

Sommaire: The load transfer mechanism and the debonding process along grouted rock anchor, subjected to tention loads, can be examined through the instrumentation of the anchor with the aid of strain gauges. In this context, the results of a full-scale site investigation including classical pull out tests and creep tests are presented in this paper. These tests were performed on instrumented bars which were cement grouted in a competent rock mass. Results presented in this paper concern, among others,...

Sommaire: The use of a torque wrench to establish the amount of actual load developed on an expansion anchor bolting system dates back to work completed in the early 1950s. The advent of ultrasonic measurement systems and hydraulic torque wrenches has made it possible for the U.S. Bureau of Mines to perform torque-tension measurements in the laboratory and the field much more accurately. The results indicate that the amount of initial bolt preload may be overestimated by amounts in excess of 45% of the...

Sommaire: The Lac Knife graphite deposit was estimated, as part of a feasibility study, using a geostatistical ore reserve estimation method: ordinary kriging. Based on the geology and its interpretation, the results of a variogram study, and the statistical parameters of the grade distribution of the core samples and the composites through the mineralization, the deposit was divided into three separate zones (west, centre and east), and each of these zones was then analyzed and kriged independently.

Sommaire: This paper describes the results of full-scale testing of several multi-layered wood crib configurations that were tested in the Bureau of Mines mine roof simulator in cooperation with the Cape Breton Coal Research Laboratory and Cape Breton Development Corporation of Sydney, Nova Scotia. Nine different crib configurations currently being used as wood packwall supports for advancing longwall applications in Canada were evaluated. Configuration parameters understudy included the aspect ratio...

Sommaire: This paper describes three case histories whereby numerical methods were employed as a tool in the identification of potential instability. Simple two dimensional (PCBEM) and pseudo three-dimensional (BESOL, MINTAB) codes were employed to identify zones of induced stress which were subsequently related to extensometer, stress meter and observational data as the stope was excavated. The following case histories will be discussed. MacLellan Mine — sill pillar stability; Ruttan Mine—...

Sommaire: There are more than thirty-five deposits or occurrences ofceles-tite in Canada, chiefly in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario and British Columbia. Deposits of economic interest are the Lake Enon and MacRae deposits in the Loch Lomond district of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Two Cape Breton deposits were operated from 1969 to 1976 by Kaiser Celestite Mining Limited, which supplied an upgraded celestite concentrate to an associated strontium carbonate plant at Point Edward,...
