Sommaire: Applications concerned with ceramic coatings are not as well known as those with metallic coatings. However, ceramic coatings have played a tremendous role in the development of technology. Ceramic coating processes made it possible to overcome technological barriers in the areas of optics, electronics, wear resistance and high temperature applications. Ceramic coatings can provide new properties to materials never considered for demanding applications. They can also open new frontiers and...

Sommaire: To better understand the wear process of various materials that may be used as blades on snow removal equipment, the first step is to evaluate the influence of the load applied and the moving speed on road wear rates of one type of steel and three types of polymers. While the behaviour of steel conforms to Archard's law, wear rates of polymers increase to a power of a of the load applied according to a model implying that the wear of these materials is due to fatigue. The wear rate of some of...

Sommaire: When Canadian potash was brought into production in the 1960s substantial research was carried out to develop the technology needed to cope with the unique conditions in Saskatchewan mines. The intense research has established Saskatchewan's position as a leader in production technology on a world scale, and as a leader in setting international standards for potash production. The industry is now more than two decades old and, although the mines operate efficiently, there are a number of...

Sommaire: The San Antonio gold mine, in the Archean Rice Lake Greenstone Belt, was in continuous production from 1932 to 1968, during which period the mine yielded 1.35 million ounces (41 985 kg) of gold and 195,000 ounces (6065 kg) of silver from 4.88 million tons (4.44 Mt) of ore for average grades of 0.28 ounces per ton (9.0 g/t) gold and 0.04 ounces per ton (1.3 g/t) silver. After the 1968 closure, several publications appeared implying that gold grade of ore decreased with increasing depth.

Sommaire: The auriferous mineralization at the Sigma-2 gold mine occurs in quartz-carbonate-tourmaline veins emplaced in a fractured grano-phyre layer in the upper part of a differentiated gabbro-diorite sill. Kinematic indicators show that fracture planes were active as strike-slip, dip-slip (reverse) and tensional faults.
Measurements of attitudes of fractures and movement vectors indicate eight different sets that can be grouped into three systems: (1) an east-west oriented system includes a...
