Sommaire: Methane emission and the desorption characteristics of vertical borehole coal samples of Greenhills multiple seams in the vicinity of Elkford, British Columbia were investigated. Three vertical boreholes at depths of 335 m, 380 m and 395 m were drilled along the west wall of an active open pit mine and 44 core samples from various coal seams were obtained for desorption studies.
The results are presented in three tables and illustrated with six figures. The methane content was found to...

Sommaire: Data for underground mine-hoist ropes determined in the Ontario Special Rope Tests were obtained, encoded and analyzed statistically. Prior to refined statistical analyses, these data were subjected to characterization studies and preliminary analyses to allow trends to emerge that could be used to guide and facilitate the refined analysis. The data were characterized by determining distributions for a wide range of variables including remaining strength, service life in terms of time and...

Sommaire: An alternative to building new copper smelters, because of either stringent environmental regulations or in order to expand current plant capacity, could be achieved through the retrofitting of old reverberatory furnaces by making use of tonnage oxygen. The CONTOP technology offers unique advantages over other techniques for this purpose, especially regarding substantial reduction in both, capital and operating costs. This is possible to achieve since the reverb throughput could be largely...
