The mining industry is facing a major energy challenge brought on by rising fuel costs, challenges in securing reliable and affordable electricity, and carbon policy developments. These, in combination with decreasing deposit grades and increasing depths for underground mines and scales for open pits, is driving mines to consider renewable energy options for powering mining sites.
The Renewable Energy and Mining Summit will bring together the global mining industry and the renewable energy sector to outline the opportunities and barriers for solving mining’s energy dilemma with renewable energy sources.

Energy decision-makers from global mines will be presenting case studies and discussing how they are accessing renewable energy options including senior representatives from Barrick Gold, Kinross Gold, Vale, Lonmin, Teck Resources Limited, Rio Tinto, American Vanadium, Cronimet Mining AG, Volcan, and Semafo.

They will be joined by renewable energy experts who are focused on opportunities in the mining sector including representatives from Enercon Canada, Sea Breeze Power Corp., Mainstream Renewable Power, Rame Energy, Solar Frontier Americas, Borealis Geopower, Energia Llaima, SUNMARK, Solarpack, REpower Systems Inc., Ameresco Canada Inc., SunEdison, International Finance Corporation, and SolarReserve.
