The shaft-boring Roadheader is a development for mechanized excavation of vertical deep blind shafts in soft ground (e.g. frozen ground) or medium hard rock. The excavation process is based on the use of the Roadheader cutting boom used in tunnelling or mining applications. A pneumatic mucking system is used to transport material into bunkers and from the bunkers, material is discharged in to buckets and raised to surface.
