Mark graduated from Acadia University and The Technical University of Nova Scotia with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He holds a Masters in Arts (Defence Studies) from The Royal Military College of Canada. He also studied Explosive Technology at Cranfield University, Shrivenham, UK.
During his 22 years in the Canadian Forces as a Military Engineer, he has served across the country in both official languages. Various command and staff appointments include Chief Engineer for Canadian Expeditionary Forces Command (Ottawa), Commanding Officer of 1 Combat Engineer Regiment (Edmonton) and most recently as the Commanding Officer of the Mission Transition Task Force Engineer Regiment (Kandahar, Afghanistan). His military career also includes significant experience in training and mentoring, human resources management and strategic planning.
Since April 2012, Mark has been the Chief Executive Officer for The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). Mark has been a professional member of Engineers Nova Scotia since 1996 and a professional member of APEGA since 2012.
