Regional Vice President, West Africa
Oumar Toguyeni joined IAMGOLD in 2012 as Vice-President, Commercial, West Africa, and was appointed to his current role in 2013.
Prior to joining IAMGOLD, Oumar had accumulated over 25 years of international experience in exploration, project development and operations for various commodities, including gold, base metals and bauxite.
Mr. Toguyeni started his career as a Senior Geologist with SOREMIB, a gold mining company in Burkina Faso. In 1995, he joined BHP Billiton and held various management positions in Burkina Faso, Guinea and The Netherlands. In 2003, Oumar joined Alcoa World Alumina in the United States as Manager, Strategic Mining Development. Thereafter, he was appointed Mining Manager, Atlantic Region, during which he oversaw mining operations and project development in Africa, South America and the Caribbean.
Oumar graduated in 1986 from the University of Dakar (Senegal) in geological engineering and, in 2005, he completed an MBA at Webster University in the United States.
Oumar Toguyeni is Chair of the CIM Branch in Dakar involved since 2012, and was a keynote speaker at the CIM Vancouver 2014 Convention Opening Plenary. He also acted as panelist at CIM Franco-Mine 2013, Franco-Mine 2014, and at the first CIM Symposium in Ouagadougou in June 2014.
