Order of Sancta Barbara

1. The Order of Sancta Barbara is awarded to any woman who has made a significant contribution to the welfare of a mining community located in Canada.

2. The award may be presented from time to time as circumstances warrant.

3. Nominations for the award shall be made over the signatures of not fewer than three (3) members of the special Women’s Committees appointed for the purpose by each Institute Branch across Canada, all of whom must be female CIM Members or Members’ wives associated with the Branch in question, and under the chairmanship of the female Chairman of the Institute Branch or the wife of the Chairman, if possible. Only one nomination may be made each year by any Branch Committee. The nominations for the award shall be received by the Executive Director of the Institute by December 15th of the year prior to the presentation of the award.

4. Every nomination must be accompanied by a detailed statement giving clearly the reasons which, in the opinion of the nominators, make their nominee a suitable candidate for the award.

5. Following the last day of January, the Executive Director of the Institute shall refer all such nominations to a special Committee of Award composed of the female CIM President or the wife of the President, who shall be the convener of the Committee and two Canadian women well known for their participation in Canadian affairs.

6. The Committee’s selection, of not more than one nominee each year, shall be reported to CIM Council not later than the last Council meeting held prior to the next Annual General Meeting of the Institute at which the presentation is expected to be made.

7. The members of the Committee of Award shall not, as individuals, be party to the nomination of any candidate.

8. The recipient shall be expected to receive the medal in person during the Annual Awards Gala held each year at the Annual General Meeting of the Institute or at such other time and place as CIM Council may direct. The presentation shall be made by the female CIM President or the wife of the President if at all possible.
