Some collected notes on the use, material and design of suspension gear

Abstract Aspects of materials, design and operation of suspension equipment is dealt with, hazard, fatigue and special metallurgical properties of certain steels to resist are described, as is the effect of temperature in service modifying the properties of some steels to resist stress concentration and propagation of cracks.
The influence of steady impact and fatigue loading and its results are described. Control of manufacture including nondestructive testing is outlined and acceptance parameters and strength calculations are given. Quality requirements and control in manufacture are outlined. A short description of the overwind detaching hook, together with illustrations of the operation of detachment are presented.
Keywords: Equipment, Maintenance, Suspension gears, Fatigue loading, Mechanical strength, Non-destructive testing, Quality control, Heat treatment.

Summary: No Canadian or his family is likely to escape the effects of proposals for pension reform tabled on October 9, 1986 by Finance Minster Michael Wilson. New tax rules are proposed for Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs), company pensions, and other forms of retirement plans. Draft legislation is expected to be released in the first half of 1987.

Summary: Two analysis tools which have been applied to problems in industrial flotation processes are the application of kinetics and detailed mineralogical or liberation data, both on a size-by-size basis. This paper describes practical examples of the application of kinetics to examination of the entrainment recovery mechanism, the retardation of valuable minerals at the commencement of flotation sections and the resolution of problems related to valuable species with reduced rate constants at the...

Summary: Those who submit competing proposals for projects seek to present senior management with complete and fully supported material that will not fail under questioning. Hopefully, misleading notions and omissions will have been minimized and there will have been testing of the assumptions regarding the economic, social and political environments.
A capital project evaluation team can do management and itself a service by including a sound approach to the impact of inflation (and its twin problem,...

Summary: The new H-W orebody was evaluated by considering its production at three technically feasible rates. Capital and operating costs were estimated for each rate and production sequences were established using mining cutoff limits generated by an ore value algorithm. The viability of the project was then examined by conducting economic and financial analyses of each of the three production cases under various world economic scenarios. These analyses employing standard profitability measures...

Summary: At most operating mines, geostatistical ore reserve estimation methods have been implemented by head office or consulting groups. With recent advances in small computer technology it is now possible for a remotely-located mine department to independently implement a geostatistical package.
This paper describes the evolution of geostatistical routines to calculate the mineral inventory for porphyry type copper/ molybdenum or similar ore bodies. The problems encountered in down sizing the...
