Recovery of Magnetite from Spiral Tailings at Labrador City

In 1966, the Iron Ore Company of Canada commissioned a wet magnetic scavanging plant for the recovery of fine magnetite values present in spiral tailings discharged from a spiral gravity separation process. The plant includes dewatering, grinding, classification, thickening, mini-wedge screening, and primary, secondary and tertiary wet magnetic separation stages. The source of feed varies in quantity and quality, so the original design included variable operational procedures to deal with these conditions.
