Bacterial Leaching of Elliot Lake Uranium Ore

Uranium may be leached to some extent in situ from the Blind River conglomerate uranium ores by using the products of bacterial activity from the bacterium Thiobacillus ferrooxidans This paper describes some of the laboratory techniques used to investigate the characteristics of the bacteria, and to utilize their properties in uranium leaching. The application of some of the laboratory results underground at the Milliken mine of Rio Algom Mines Limited are described, along with the method of uranium recovery from the mine waters
