This paper discusses the methods used in the exploration for oil and gas in the Arctic Islands. The two main
phases of this exploration work are considered - (1) reconnaissance geological mapping; and (2) the more refined geological and geophysical methods. The prospects for oil and gas, in view of the lithology and structure of the bedrock of the Arctic Islands, are considered to be quite favourable, and the authors conclude t hat further exploration is fully warranted.
