A simplified description is given of the character of sounds, noise measuring and analyzing equipment and
the effects of noise on the ear. Hearing damage risk limits are discussed. A summary of the elements of rock drill noise is presented. The effect of noise decay with distance, on both surface and underground applications, is covered. The effect of mufflers on rock drills is demonstrated, and limitations are discussed.
