Explosives in Coal Mining

IN formulating an explosive for any specific set of conditions, various factors must be taken into consideration. Is it to be subjected to water or moisture? If so, it must be designed to have an inherent ability to resist water. Is it to be used in confined spaces underground, where ventilation is limited? If it is, it must possess qualities enabling it to form, upon explosion, the minimum quantity of noxious gases, such as carbon monoxide or oxides of nitrogen.
