RED FLAG DATA INTEGRATION ISSUES AND THEIR IMPACT ON RESOURCE MODELING

CIM Vancouver 2016
Mr Brian Thomas (Senior Resource Geologist - Golder Associates Ltd.)
The presentation will identify some of the common geological data collection and integration problems that can affect the resource modeling process. These issues are a concern not just for greenfield and brownfield exploration projects but for producing mines as well. Potential solutions and data collection techniques that can be used to produce a reasonably accurate, non-biased resource block model and estimate will be discussed.

The most common data issues will be explored, providing visual examples of the affects they can have on the resource model and providing practical solutions that can be implemented to prevent problems at the resource modeling stage.

Understanding the issues and implementing correct data collection and validation processes prior to resource estimation can increase the confidence and credibility of a project and potentially reduce long term project costs by avoiding costly mistakes and oversights that can delay a project or make financing more difficult.
