USING GIS TO MONITOR GEOMECHANICAL CONDITION OF ROCK MASS IN KRYVBASS
Operation of the iron ore deposits of Krivbass which has been going for 130 years, has led to serious problems related to reaching great depths in open pit and underground mining. Extraction of the huge volume of rock mass (about 9 billion m3) resulted in mass violations of the natural state of the subsurface. At present most mining operations are carried out either by combined open pit and underground mining or by open pits in areas underworked by underground mining. Now the process of movement of the strata underworked by underground mines is not completed – work fronts of open pits approach the areas of possible funnel, terrace and fissure formation, movement continue to develop.
