UNDERGROUND CABLE FAULT LOCATION UNDER METHANE AND COAL DUST EXPLOSION HAZARD CONDITIONS

We present research on cable fault location methods for mines where coal dust and methane explosions are a frequent potential hazard. The methodology and devices for low- and medium voltage cables fault location are well known and applied in classical power distribution networks. They are based on solutions for underground mines with a high risk of explosion. The lack of a safe solution for the location of a fault has contributed to the initiation of a research project by a group of Polish companies. The consortium consists of research institutes (Institute of Innovative Technologies EMAG, Tele and Radio Research Institute, Central Mining Institute GIG-KD “Barbara”), Silesian University of Technology and a private entrepreneur MARTECH PLUS.
