The Salitre Mineral Project consists of opening an open-pit mine and a mineral process plant to process phosphate ore. The project will be developed in Patrocinio in Minas Gerais state in Brazil. The project capacity will be of 2 MMtons of phosphate rock.
The main challenge in the Greenfield mine development is to implant an efficient water table dewatering system because 100% of the ore is encountered below the water table. Therefore, the dewatering system cannot compromise the mine operations safety.
The design project was based on many geological, mineralogical and technological characterization (laboratorial and pilot scales), physical parameters determinations and hydrological and hydro geological studies and analyses.
The circuit will consist of three crushing stages – primary crushing with mobile equipment, secondary with toothed roll crushing and the tertiary one with cone crusher; screening; ball mill grinding; low intensity magnetic separation; desliming; flotation and high intensity magnetic separation. The phosphate ore wil be concentrated by independent flotation circuits for coarse and fine materials. The standard phosrock produced will be submitted to a high intensity magnetic separation for reduce the iron percentage.
The phosrock produced will be transferred to a Terminal where it will be filtered, transported and repulped to be used at the Industrial Complex. The industrial complex will be designed, as well.
The purpose of this paper is to present the main aspects of circuit design, project construction and startup planning. The Salitre Project will be implemented in 2014 and will represent a 55% increase of the Fosfertil phosphate production capacity.
