ACHIEVING 15% PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENT AT A SOUTH AFRICAN COAL MINE

CIM Vancouver 2010
Terence Chigova,
Abstract The mining industry has always been affected by the cyclic nature of the metal prices. When metal prices decline, mines focus on a reduction in costs, and they sometimes decide to either close mines or put them under care and maintenance until prices improve. Alternatively, mines can make their operations more efficient and thereby increase throughput by deploying Real-time Mine Management Systems such as Modular’s market leading IntelliMine® DISPATCH® System. This paper outlines Modular DISPATCH® mine management system deployment and Change Management to ensure a 15% improvement at a South African Coal Mine avoiding mine closure due to low productivity.
