Labour Market Intelligence: An Update on the supply and demand of human resources for the Canadian mining industry

CIM Toronto 2009
Abstract The recent global economic turmoil has implications for employment and labour market functioning for all of Canada’s productive sectors, including mining. The Mining Industry Human Resources Council has devoted significant time and resources over the last 5 years to collect and analyze labour market intelligence with a view to supporting enhanced workforce planning and development of our industry stakeholders. This presentation focuses on the Mining Industry Workforce Information Network (MIWIN) – a project by the MiHR Council which aims to provide a forecasting tool that will better anticipate the ebbs and flows in the mining labour market and provide more detailed analysis about the supply and demand for labour by region, commodity and most importantly by occupation. The presentation will include recent labour market information, mining post-secondary enrolment trends and regional occupational forecasts.
