Fraser Mine production hoist has been in operation for over fifty years, beginning life as Strathcona No. 1 hoist. As a result of development of the Fraser Morgan zones, the hoist will soon be asked to produce more than it has ever produced.
During early planning stages in 2005 it was determined that the hoist was capable of increased annual production provided that some lingering reliability issues were addressed prior to the critical production period. Concurrently, a site based project was initiated to speed up the hoist because it was at capacity.
This paper will walk through the steps taken to address this disconnect between operations and the project group, initiatives taken to improve shaft reliability and current initiatives to achieve incremental gains in production.
