The mining industry has a productivity problem. McEwen Mining has opened its Toronto office to the industry’s leaders and big thinkers to begin looking for solutions.
Here are some of their ideas.
Automated core logging using hyperspectral analysis
Hyperspectral imaging and computer processing power have broken ground in mineral exploration. Geologists can now determine mineral types and distribution as well as critical geotechnical and metallurgical details over hundreds of metres in a matter of hours. Hugh de Souza of SGS explains how it works.
Algae-based water treatment for the mining sector
Based on a high school science fair project, Noble Purification optimises the ability of algae to filter out valuable or unwanted minerals and metals. Andressa Lacerda explains how the biochemical approach avoids the needs for long retention time and to grow algae on site to remediate waste water.
These presentations are part of McEwen Mining’s Innovation Lunch and Learn Series, hosted at the company’s Toronto office. The videos are produced by Toronto Corporate Video Productions.
