On Thursday, September 18, 2008, the CIM Management and Economics Society (MES) and the CIM Toronto Branch held a joint luncheon at the National Club in Toronto. The featured speaker was Christine Lie, vice president, Issuer Marketing Division, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited. Lie provided insights on recent mining activity on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange as well as valuable information on listing requirements. As one of the world’s leading exchanges, Hong Kong is now targeting Canadian mining companies for possible listing.
Jean Vavrek, CIM executive director, and Keith Spence, chairman of MES, were on hand to present the Robert Elver Mineral Economics Award to Keith Brewer, who was being honoured for his many years of service to the fields of geology, mineral economics and mining.
MES and the Toronto Branch plan to continue the annual joint luncheon as a vehicle to provide timely and important economic information to members of both groups.
