The sunny, warm weather of the Chaleur region greeted delegates and guests at the 33rd CIM New Brunswick Convention in Bathurst/Beresford, held at Danny’s Inn & Conference Centre, from September 4 to 6, 2008.
The Honourable Donald Arseneault, New Brunswick Minister of Natural Resources, gave the opening address at Friday’s technical sessions. Twelve papers were presented on the conference theme, “Success and Innovation in the New Brunswick Mineral Industry.” Luncheon speaker Dave Plante, vice president, Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters, New Brunswick Division, delivered a captivating presentation.
Meanwhile, guests were acquainted with the beliefs and traditions of the Pabineau First Nation through a “Medicine Walk” and dream catcher creation session.
At the Friday evening banquet, Ron Shaw, CIM vice president, District 1, presented the CIM Fellowship Award to Andy Cormier. The New Brunswick Branch Directors’ Award, Friend of the Institute, was presented to Bob DeGrace of Danny’s Inn & Conference Centre for his many years of support to the branch’s activities.
Delegates had a swinging Saturday at the branch’s golf tournament, held at the Gowan Brae Golf & Country Club, where the notoriously difficult 13th and 17th holes challenged even the best. The same evening, guests and participants were treated to a delectable East Coast seafood feast and danced to the sounds of “Stay Tuned,” a renowned local ladies group. Once again, this branch has proven that business is best conducted with a dash of pleasure!
