This is the first issue of the newly named CIM Magazine. Members have been receiving the CIM Bulletin for decades—it’s a name that is recognized and respected. The CIM Bulletin inspires images of technical papers of the highest merit, membership newsletters, and Institute business. But as CIM continues on its strategic path to increase relevancy for both members and industry, so too have CIM’s publications modernized.
The peer-reviewed technical papers remain a top priority, and for a year and a half have been hosted in an online searchable library (www.cim.org). This allows more efficient access for members. The magazine is focused on delivering news, columns, and feature articles and photos to keep readers informed about the industry they work in. A magazine is defined as “a periodical containing a collection of articles, stories, pictures, or other features.” So we present to you the CIM Magazine.
This year, our aim is to increase the CIM Magazine’s relevancy for our members. With great input from the professionals and personalities of the minerals industry, there will be more articles and columns to cover best practices, emerging trends, and technological development. I receive constant feedback and suggestions from readers - and I rely on that to help shape every issue. Please drop me an email or give me a call to help us cover our industry better.
The CIM Bulletin name has not vanished into history. As it has represented the highest technical content throughout its time, it will continue to do just that. It has moved online, and into the technical paper library, housing the peer-reviewed papers for which it is renowned.
At CIM, we’re working hard to make this an even greater year for the Institute and our members, with many improvements made to our conference, and a major wave of change impending as the new strategic plan shapes up. The CIM Magazine is part of that momentum, and I look forward to working with you to make it strong.
