The Underground Operators’ Conferences have become the benchmark of sharing underground operational experiences, good practices and lessons learnt within Australia. In 2014 I invite you to reconvene in Adelaide, SA for another in this increasingly popular series of events, including post conference tours and related topic workshops.
In the last decade a turbulent global financial environment has resulted in a new cost of production environment where total global demand is higher, head grades are reducing, and mining inflation (particularly labour, energy, mining consumables and regulatory burdens) have combined to induce cash margin stress at metal prices, which a decade earlier, were thought to be beyond bonanza pricing. In this new environment, underground operators will benefit from a forum to share lessons learnt and good practices developed. Further challenges into the future include increasing our safety performance in the quest for zero harm, including the challenge of ensuring our workforces are well trained and effective in order to make good operational decisions on the job.
The 12th AusIMM Underground Operators’ Conference 2014 organising committee plans to present a conference built around the theme of ‘Managing the Margin’, where experiences in planning, scheduling, management of operations, improved productivity, dilution control, and other improvements, can contribute to the value of ore produced, and improve the cash margin.
The organising committee seeks your support and involvement in this conference by your attendance, your contribution in the form of a paper if you believe you have something to share, and your participation in the associated tours and workshops planned for the event.
