The Saskatoon Branch of the CIM is pleased to announce a scholarship program that is intended to promote secondary education of young adults. The Saskatoon Branch of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum acknowledges the great importance of post secondary education for the future workers in industry. In the competitive global business environment that we are now in, highly qualified professionals are required to ensure the future success of the mining and petroleum industry. CIM scholarships will be presented to dependent children of current members and student members of the Saskatoon Branch of the CIM (if dependent child, dues of the parent need to be paid by Environmental Night, Jan 20, 2011). In order to be eligible for the CIM Scholarship, student members need to attend at least 3 meetings during the 2010-2011 CIM term prior to the application deadline (the Annual Ball is not a meeting). Applications must be received by 5PM February 15th, 2011. Applicants must be in a program of study of not less than two years duration that will, on completion of studies, lead to formal qualification from a recognized post secondary educational institution. Graduate students are not eligible. A Selection Committee appointed by the Branch Executive Committee will review all applications and make selections. The Selection Committee will review the applicants, leadership qualities, character references, extra curricular activities, official mark transcripts, the number and subjects of classes taken, the focus of the studies in comparison to the needs of the mining and petroleum industry, etc. It will be at the discretion of the committee to weigh all presented factors in selecting the scholarship recipients.
