Description

Asbestos Waste Disposal

To prevent exposure to wastes containing asbestos and to ensure that the storage, collection, transport and disposal of these wastes do not represent a health hazard to humans or a threat to the environment.

Guidance Document for the Management of Impacted Sites

The purpose of this guidance document is to provide a clear process for the management of impacted sites in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador that results in the satisfactory resolution of environmental contamination, which may present an unacceptable risk to human or ecological health.

Policy for Allocation of Water Use

The allocation of the use of water in the Province will be subject to the following policy guidelines established under the authority vested by the Act.

Policy for Application and Other Fees

This policy directive establishes tariffs or fees for providing administrative and technical services in the water resource management area.

Policy for Construction of Ground and Water Sourced Heat Pumps

The purpose of this policy is to provide adequate protection for groundwater resources and groundwater users in the vicinity of newly constructed GWSHPs.

Policy for Development in Shore Water Zones

This policy will establish the criteria for issuing a permit under Section 48 of the Water Resources Act, SNL 2002 cW-4.01, for all development activities in and affecting shore water zones. The objective of the policy is to permit developments of shore water zones such that potential economic losses and impacts on water quantity, water quality, and terrestrial and aquatic habitats and life are minimized.

Policy for Development in Wetlands

This policy will establish the criteria for issuing a permit under Section 48 of the Water Resources Act, SNL 2002 cW-4.011, for all development activities in and affecting wetlands. The objective of the policy is to permit developments in wetlands which do not adversely affect the water quantity, water quality, hydrologic characteristics or functions, and terrestrial and aquatic habitats of the wetlands.

Policy for Infilling Bodies of Water

To adopt a consistent approach to development proposals involving infilling bodies of water in order to protect the water resource, the adjacent lands and the development itself.

Policy for Land and Water Related Developments in Protected Public Water Supply Areas

The existing and proposed development activities in protected water supply areas will be subject to the following policy guidelines established under Section 39 of the Act.

Policy for Use of Creosote Treated Wood In and Near Fresh Water

To adopt a consistent approach to the use of creosote treated wood in and near bodies of fresh water in order to protect the water resource from a source of potential pollution.
