Breakfast and Tour at the Fairmont, 9:00

The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald has long been known as the most elegant hotel in Edmonton and is lovingly referred to as 'The Mac.' After four years of construction, the hotel, named after Canada's first Prime Minister, Sir John A. MacDonald, opened its doors on July 05, 1915 and was destined to become the centre of Edmonton's social life.
Situated high on the bank overlooking the North Saskatchewan River valley, the seven-storey Grand Trunk Pacific Hotel (faced with Indiana limestone and roofed with copper) was built and furnished at a cost of about $2,250,000 (over $35 million today). The characteristic Chateau style, an adaptation of French 16th Century castles, was first brought to Canada in 1892.
The day will begin with a guided visit of the hotel followed by breakfast in the beautiful Jasper Room.

Building and Exhibition Tour of the Alberta Art Gallery and Lunch, 11:00

Guests will be toured around the Art Gallery and introduced to some of the gallery’s featured exhibitions. Tours will be guided by one of AGA’s educated guides who will give guests a first-hand experience of this remarkable building and its various exhibitions.
A customized lunch menu by ZINC Restaurant’ Executive Chef, Dave Omar will be presented in one of the most beautiful restaurant locations in the city of Edmonton, overlooking Churchill Square.
Celebrating its prominent location on Sir Winston Churchill Square in the heart of the Arts District in downtown Edmonton, the AGA extends the Gallery into the community, welcoming visitors to experience art first hand. Taking inspiration from the city’s unique northern environment and urban grid, architect Randall Stout juxtaposed angular windows against a winding 190-metre steel ribbon that references the forms of the North Saskatchewan River and Aurora Borealis. The 85,000 sq ft AGA is a world-class center for the presentation of regional, national and international art, education and scholarship.

Visit of the Muttart Conservatory, 14:00

Private tour of one of Edmonton’s most iconic structures, the Muttart Conservatory, which offers a year-round escape into the beauty of the world’s plant life.
The conservatory consists of four glass, pyramid-shaped structures that showcase plants from arid, tropical, and temperate climates, providing a welcome oasis of warmth during winter. The fourth pyramid hosts a theme that changes throughout the year.
Vibrant, colourful, tranquil and inspirational; the pyramids’ display gardens are a welcome oasis for all.
Designed by award-winning Canadian architect Peter Hemingway, the Muttart Conservatory officially opened in September 1976.
The two larger' pyramids are 660 square meters in area, and the two medium-sized ones are 410 square meters in size. Three of the pyramids are devoted to displays of plants from the tropical, temperate, and arid regions respectively; the fourth being used for shows that change with the seasons and which feature massed displays of ornamental flowering plants.
