Florence Sigut of Sydney, Nova Scotia for her 30 years of involvement in the mining industry and the mining community, her 16 years of generous volunteer commitment to the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum to promote and strengthen our affiliation.

Florence was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia. She was first involved in mining by accepting a position in the General Office of the Dominion Coal Co. in Sydney, Nova Scotia in 1961. She has attended several world-mining conferences in Europe and South America as an aid to her husband. She has also attended several conferences in Canada and the USA covering employee safety. She is a strong supporter of the mining industry in Canada and is hopeful that mining will again be undertaken in Cape Breton.

She is involved in church activities and is a permanent Lecturer. She has taught Children's Sunday school for more than 20 years and she has been a Meals on Wheels volunteer for a number of years.
