In recognition of his 50 plus years of dedication and promotion of the mining industry as executive publisher of The Northern Miner and as treasurer of the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame.
John S. Cooke's career with The Northern Miner spanned 43 years. John held a number of senior positions with family-owned Northern Miner Press Limited and with Langridge Marshall as president of its exploration outfitting division. John also held the position of advertising sales manager with The Northern Miner. In 1990, John was promoted to executive publisher, a position which he fulfilled to his retirement in January 1999. Under John's direction, The Northern Miner recognized mining industry excellence through its weekly reporting and "Mining Man of the Year" award. John is also a founding director and treasurer of the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame. Since the first induction ceremony in 1989, he has been the mainstay of the event. Under his management and personal attention, the Hall of Fame annual induction ceremonies have become a prestigious occasion in the Canadian mining industry.
John has been an avid supporter of the mining industry and community for years, as member of CIM and PDAC, and by lending support to the activities of the Women's Association of the Mining Industry of Canada.
