Peter Edmunds Peter Edmunds
Sudbury, ON

“In recognition of outstanding contributions to CIM and the mining industry in promoting the integrity, recognition and status of CIM on a global stage.”

Peter Edmunds started working underground at the Roan Antelope mine in Zambia in January 1964, and left in 1966 to attend the Camborne School of Mines in England. Upon graduation, he came to Canada in 1970, to work for Rio Algom at its Anglo Rouyn mine in northern Saskatchewan, and then at the New Quirke mine in Elliot Lake, Ontario. In September 1971, he joined Atlas Copco and has been with them for nearly 35 years.

In 1980, he was transferred to Namibia and became founding chairman of many organizations, such as the Institute of Marketing Management, the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy, and the Namibian Association of Swedish Business and Industry. Peter returned to Canada in 1993, where he held various positions with Atlas Copco in Montreal.

A member of CIM since 1971, Peter was heavily involved with the Institute, handling the Council of Mining and Metallurgical Institutions, a sister institute liaison for the CIM Centennial in 1998. He then became Chairman of CIM's International Affairs Committee and was also president of the World Rock Boring Association. In 2001, he became the first CIM Vice President International, and developed the foundation for CIM's global efforts. In May 2003, Peter became CIM Vice President, District 3, the position he still holds. He has been very active on the CIM Council, serves as an ambassador for CIM, and has been directly involved in several new initiatives including greater outreach to the CIM branches.

Peter relocated with Atlas Copco to Sudbury in 2002, and currently holds the position of business development manager, Atlas Copco Construction and Mining Canada.
