Richard (Dick) Marshall was born and educated in Alberta. A mining engineer by profession, he has worked in all aspects of the coal industry, including exploration, development, production and international marketing. He has held a number of executive positions within the industry, including Western Minerals Limited, Fording Coal Limited, and BP Canada. He was appointed president of the Coal Association of Canada in 1983 representing the Canadian coal industry nationally and internationally. In 1990 he fulfilled a long-term desire to incorporate his own consulting practice and continues to be active.
