Simon C. Dominy
Simon C. Dominy is a graduate of the City of London Polytechnic and the Camborne School of Mines. In 1992 he was awarded a Ph.D. from Kingston University, UK and is both a Chartered Geologist and Engineer. Since 1992 he has held a number of industry and academic posts including that of mine geologist, senior mining engineer, senior research fellow, company geologist, resource manager, senior consultant and Lecturer. Dominy has a wide experience of precious metal deposits, working in Eastern and Western Europe, Australia, North and South America and the CIS. Since October 2001, he has been the Minerals Council of Australia Lecturer in Mining Geology and Resource Engineering at the James Cook University of Northern Queensland, Australia. At JCU he directs the M.Econ.Geol. degree and the Resource Geology Research Group. He has interests in, and published over 45 papers on aspects of controls to mineralization/grade distribution; sampling, mineral resource/ore reserve estimation and mine design. He is chairing the 5th AusIMM International Mining Geology Conference in November 2003.
Alwyn E. Annels
Alwyn E. Annels is a geology graduate of Kings College London and obtained a Ph.D. from the Royal School of Mines, UK in 1967. He is a Chartered Engineer. Dr. Annels is currently a Principal Mining Geologist with SRK Consulting UK Ltd and a Visiting Lecturer at Cardiff University, UK. He was employed as an exploration and then mine geologist on the Zambian Copper-Belt before holding a Lectureship/Senior Lectureship at Cardiff University from 1974 to 1998. At Cardiff University he set up and ran the highly successful M.Sc. degree in mineral resources. He has a wide experience of different commodities, having worked on metallic and industrial mineral deposits in Eastern and Western Europe, North America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the CIS. He specializes in mineral resource estimation and mining feasibility studies. In 1991 his book entitled Mineral Resource Evaluation: A Practical Approach was published.
Brian W. Cuffley
Brian W. Cuffley is a geology graduate of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and received a postgraduate diploma in environmental management from La Trobe University, Australia. He has more than thirty years experience in exploration and mine geology with BHP, US Steel and Western Mining Corporation and as a consultant on projects throughout Australia and overseas. He is currently exploration manager with Ironbark Mining Pty Ltd (formerly Reef Mining NL), Australia, where he was instrumental in the discovery of the high-grade Nick O'Time oreshoot at Tarnagulla. He continues to be involved with gold exploration within the Central Victorian Goldfields.
Garry F. Johansen
Garry F. Johansen graduated in geology from the University of New England, Australia in 1978, and has explored for gold and base metals throughout Australia, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands for the last twenty years. The majority of this time has been as an employee of Newmont Australia Ltd. and later Newcrest Mining Ltd. In 1996 he joined Bendigo Mining NL as Exploration Manager. He has led the geological reinterpretation of the Bendigo Goldfield, which is now being reopened.
Ian M. Platten
Ian M. Platten holds B.Sc. (Hons) and Ph.D. degrees in geology from the University of London and is a Chartered Geologist. He has held a number of academic posts in the UK, most recently as Senior Lecturer in applied geology at the University of Greenwich, UK. He is currently a Principal Consultant with GGI Consulting UK and a Visiting Fellow at the University of Greenwich. His principal interests are in regional geology and structure; having undertaken mapping projects for the British Geological Survey in Scotland, and in the emplacement mechanisms of minor intrusives and vein systems. Since 1996 he has been working with co-author Simon Dominy on geological interpretation/modeling issues relating to the resource estimation of high-nugget effect gold reefs.
