Toronto Branch
In recognition of the Branch's relevance in the local mining community through outstanding social and business networking activities for members and students, and the successful development of Mining Rocks! and the innovative Mining in Society program.The Toronto Branch is a vibrant and active group, with over 550 members. One of its most popular events is the monthly luncheon which averages 130 participants and includes guest speakers. Students from local universities are invited to attend each luncheon, at no cost. The luncheons provide members and the local mining community with knowledge sharing and networking opportunities.
The branch also organizes several successful events including the Students Night Dinner and the CIM Toronto Branch / CMP Golf Day at Glen Abbey. It was active in planning and hosting Mining Rocks! 2005, with branch executive members actively involved, notably Deborah McCombe (Chair of the Organizing Committee), Mike Hoffman and Paul Semple (Technical Program), Bruce Brady (Social Program), and Neil Westoll (Golf Day at Glen Abbey). The branch initiated and executed a number of new events at Mining Rocks! including Mining in Society, the Mining Investment Forum, the Student Poster Session, the Mine Manager's Forum and Business Class Registrations. The financial success of its events has allowed the branch to further enhance its role in supporting various student activities.
