In recognition of leadership and teamwork in contributing to the geological understanding of the Kivalliq region of NWT, which has led to numerous gold discoveries, including the Meliadine, Meadowbank and Noomut gold projects.
A graduate of the University of Calgary in Geology, Mark Balog began a career that so far has covered highly successful exploration activities in British Columbia, the Yukon and the Northwest Territories. A highlight of his career has been his involvement in the evaluation and development of the Mt. Shukum gold mine in the Yukon, working with the Inuit people of Nunavit, and being an active participant in the developments on the Meliadine property. For the past nine years he has been working for Comaplex Minerals.
