Gerry Carlson was born in Toronto and graduated with a B.A.Sc. degree from the University of Toronto in 1969. He moved to the Yukon where he worked for several summers in mineral exploration while completing his graduate studies, receiving a M.Sc. from Michigan Technological University in 1974 and a Ph.D. in economic geology from Dartmouth College in 1978.
He moved to Vancouver and became exploration manager, Canada for Anaconda until 1984. After three years teaching at UBC, he became involved with junior public company exploration, first with a flow-through fund and then with a number of companies, including Gulf International Minerals, Dromedary Exploration Company, Dentonia Resources, IMA Exploration and La Teko Resources.
He is currently president of Copper Ridge Explorations Inc., exploring in the Yukon, and Nevada Star Resource Corp., exploring in Alaska. Although his work has taken him to many parts of the world, he continues to return to the Yukon, home of the Klondike and a land of great exploration opportunity.
Gerry is a Professional Engineer (Yukon and British Columbia). He has served on many volunteer committees and is currently president of the Society of Economic Geologists Canada Foundation, Chairman of the Yukon Technical Liaison Committee for the Yukon Geology Program, a past president of the British Columbia and Yukon Chamber of Mines and a has been a member of CIM since he first joined as a student in 1968.
