In recognition of his many contributions as a metallurgical engineer, operations manager, and executive in the development of technologies which resulted in low-cost, environmentally sound operations for producing copper, zinc and nickel.
Born and educated in Montreal, Alex Balogh graduated in 1954 from McGill University with a Bachelor degree in metallurgical engineering. Mr. Balogh is deputy chairman, Noranda Inc., chairman of the Board, Falconbridge Limited, and chairman, The International Council on Metals and the Environment (ICME).
Directorships include: Battle Mountain Gold Company (Houston, Texas), Strong Equipment Corporation, Grupo Industrial Camesa S.A. de C.V., The Mining Association of Canada (MAC), National Advisory Committee of the Minerals and Metals Industry (NACOMMI), as well as subsidiaries within the Noranda Group of companies.
In November 1995, Mr. Balogh became a member of the Council of Governors for the Canada-Chile Board of Trade (CCBT).
