Sudbury, Ontario, Canada is renowned for its stature as one of the world’s largest sources of nickel ore and has a stellar reputation as a leader in applied mining and metallurgical research. The City of Sudbury has been the recipient of numerous international awards in recognition of its efforts in the area of environmental rehabilitation. More than 300 mining supply and service companies have made Greater Sudbury their home, resulting in Sudbury being the largest integrated mining/metallurgical complex in the world.

Naturally Sudbury is the ideal host city for a Conference of Metallurgists for 2009 (COM 2009). COM, the premier annual event of the Metallurgical Society of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, promises to be a major international event with key topics such as:
